Welcome to Instrumental Music! Before you know it, the 2010-11 school year will begin! ECS has many opportunities for students to learn to play a musical instrument! String instruments like the violin and cello have classes starting in 2nd grade. Students in 3rd-8th grade have the opportunity to do violin, viola, cello or bass. Band instrumetns, such as flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone and percussion are started in the 5th grade. Students in 6th-8th grade can continue in Band and also have the opportunity to play saxophone, french horn and tuba as we might need these insturments to fill out the band. There are many reasons to consider playing a musical instrument. Instrumental Music students often score higher on standardized tests such as the SAT. Students often perform better in both verbal and math skills. Students learn life skills such as discipline and teamwork. Students develop good listening skills. Music is the only subject that covers ALL areas of learning... emotional, physical and intellectual. Playing a musical instrument is FUN! I am looking forward to seeing both new and returning students in the fall!
